The 17th International Beekeeping Fair “Brčko 2024” gathered local and regional beekeepers

The seventeenth international beekeeping fair “Brčko 2024” started on Friday and gathered around 50 domestic and regional exhibitors.

The fair was visited by the mayor of Brčko District of BiH, Zijad Nišić, who emphasized the importance of this event not only for the beekeeping community, but also for the wider social context, including the promotion of ecology and the preservation of bees, which, he said, are key to the ecosystem and agriculture.

“This fair is not only an opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and experience among beekeepers, but also a platform for strengthening awareness of the importance of environmental protection. It carries a strong message of preservation and protection of ecology, which is a necessary condition for the survival of bees, whose stock has decreased by 80% in the last few decades in Europe. Their survival directly depends on the state of nature around us, while our health and future depend on the survival of bees. At the fair, we had the opportunity to see various products, from tinctures, teas to high-quality honey, which are of great importance for human health,”  said the mayor.

The mayor emphasized the importance of organizing such and similar events that promote the Brčko District of BiH and contribute to the strengthening of the tourist offer of this local community.

“We will continue to support such manifestations in order to further develop our region. Currently, the incentive for beekeepers per hive is 40 KM and the Government monitors the dynamics and needs of beekeepers in order to provide them with adequate support in their work”,  said the mayor.

The beekeeping fair was also attended by the chief coordinator of the Government of the Brčko District of BiH, Željko Antić, the head of the Department for Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Milenko Ninković, and the President of the Assembly of the Brčko District of BiH, Siniša Milić, who officially opened the 17th International Beekeeping Fair “Brčko 2024”.

After the ceremonial presentation of awards to the best beekeepers, Milić congratulated the winners and invited all citizens to visit the fair, stressing that in addition to products, this event also promotes the preservation of a clean and healthy environment.
