Sulfur showers in Slavinovići – for skin health and for the treatment of skin diseases

Thermal waters that contain various minerals are suitable for the treatment of many diseases and are also used in spas during physiotherapy. One such natural treasure is located in Tuzla, in the village of Slavinovići, where there are showers from which sulfur water flows, and throughout the year it is possible to see many citizens bathing or carrying water in bottles.

Sulfur showers in the Slavinovići settlement in Tuzla have existed for hundreds of years, and their history and wells have been written about at the Faculty of Mining and Geology of the University of Tuzla. Namely, sulfuric water does not flow continuously from the showers, but comes every 48 hours, and is then available for use for approximately 10 to 12 hours.

“People know when the water comes and then they come too,” says Mirsad Pašić, president of the Slavinovići Local Community.

This kind of water is useful in many ways for the health of the skin and for the treatment of skin diseases.

“Different ulcers, acne, atopic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis – this water is actually suitable for all of these. I have these experiences – when patients stay in these waters, the changes on their skin improve”, says Merisa Imamović-Kuluglić, specialist in dermatology.

The maximum allowed time for using thermal waters, such as the showers in Slavinovići, is 20 minutes, while the use of these waters is prohibited for people with certain health problems, such as cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. The citizens of Tuzla, and especially the residents of Slavinović, regularly visit the sulfur showers and use this natural treasure.

Due to unresolved property law matters, the City Administration says they are unable to arrange the showers or carry out any work, and the locals point out that the showers were partially renovated thanks to socially responsible companies.
