The parents of Srebrenica first-year students organized a media conference in front of the First Primary School in Srebrenica. They are dissatisfied with the lack of communication between the school and the parents when submitting the initiative to the Ministry of Education and Culture to divide the children into two classes.
The parents only found out at the beginning of the school year that the school, without communicating with them, requested from the Ministry that 18 first graders be divided into two groups, even though the legal minimum is 12 students per class. Also, they believe that the fact that school representatives told them at the meeting on September 2 that the children in this generation are below average for starting school is looking for an alibi.
– Until yesterday, no information was available to parents about how many students were enrolled, how many classes there would be, who the teacher would be. Due to the desire to divide the children into two classes without our knowledge, we wrote a petition, which was sent to the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Srpska. The school justified that they did this because they think that these smaller groups are better because our children did not show satisfactory results. It was established that only one child was at the average level, and all the other children were below the average, so they judged that it was the best for them. Here we are now asking, if it is true that all these children are below average, why is it even possible for these children to go to school – said Marko Milovanović, one of the parents.
– I am the mother of a first grader. I feel, just like other parents, that it would be good for the children to go together, not to separate them, because the children have been together in kindergarten since nursery school and have learned to function that way – said Merisa Ahmetović, whose daughter entered the first grade. .
The First Elementary School did not want to comment on the situation, and the parents still say that they did not receive any information about who the teacher of the second class would be.
– I would like to point out, first of all, that we are not here with the aim of leaving someone on the street, as some represent. Secondly, we will come to a situation where we will put this central school of ours this year, and let’s not talk about the next, into the situation that it will be a regional school. First of all, it’s already the second day of the new school year, we still don’t know the name of that other teacher – emphasized parent Srđan Grujičić.
The Ministry of Education of the Republika Srpska responded to our inquiry with a press release and pointed out that in the meantime it was decided to have only one first grade class in Srebrenica.
