Sokolac will apply for the renewable energy sources project

Today, representatives of the humanitarian organization CRS BiH (Catholic Relief Services), which implements the project PRO – Future (Trust, Understanding, Responsibility for the Future), financed by the United States Agency for International Development USAID, visited the municipality of Sokolac and talked with Mayor Milovan Bjelica about continuation of long-term cooperation.

USAID has approved new funds intended to support the process of reconstruction of infrastructure facilities for the common good of all citizens.

According to Renata Dlouhi Kastelic, on behalf of CRS, this is a new project component, i.e., support for infrastructure projects.

The municipality of Sokolac is a long-term partner in the PRO – Future project and is one of the 75 municipalities and cities that can apply for it. At today’s meeting, we discussed the criteria and new ideas. We are glad that we continue our cooperation and wish a lot of luck to the municipality of Sokolac in applying,” said Dlouhi Kastelic.

Mayor Milovan Bjelica thanked for the visit and shared additional information about municipality’s project application related to the renewable energy sources.

This includes the installation of solar panels in the Sports Hall, new indoor lighting (LED lighting), as well as outdoor lighting, given that schools are located in the immediate vicinity, which would result in significant savings. It is part of the city center and where a large number of young and older citizens circulate. The municipality of Sokolac is otherwise dedicated to the areas of ecology, production of healthy and organic food, preservation of the environment, and energy efficiency. We are ready, as a local community, to take a significant financial share. By September 1, we should have the project documentation and send it for evaluation,” Bjelica said.

The approved funds of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), within the project PRO – Future, are being implemented for three years, in the period from 2020 to 2022.
