Safet Alibasic will carry the BiH flag at the opening of the Paralympic Games in Paris

At the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games in Paris, the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be carried tonight by Safet Alibašić, a member of the sitting volleyball team.

Alibasic was born on December 21, 1982 in Tuzla. At the third edition of the European Championship held in 2024 in Poreč, he won the third consecutive title with OK Fantomi from Sarajevo, and at the same time was declared MVP of the European Championship. He was also declared MVP of the European Championship in 2023, when his team triumphed in Dresden.

Last year, Alibasic won the gold medal at the Euro Cup in Italy and the Premier League of BiH with his club. Also, with the BiH national team, he won gold at the European Championship held in 2023 and fulfilled the norm for the Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024. In addition to the gold medal at the European Championship in 2023, in the same year he was also awarded the title of the best player of the best teams of the Old Continent.

He was declared the best athlete for 2013 in the disability sports category in Sarajevo. He earned this recognition after winning the eighth consecutive title of European champion in sitting volleyball with the BiH national team.

Alibasic started his sports career back in 1997 in Lukavac in the club of the same name. He won numerous medals in his career, including two Paralympic gold medals and multiple world and European titles.

As a reminder, 4,400 athletes and 182 delegations are participating in the Paralympic Games, and Bosnia and Herzegovina is represented by 14 athletes who will compete in three disciplines: sitting volleyball, paraswimming and para-archery.

The Paralympic Games last until September 8.
