What is AIESEC?
AIESEC is an international youth-led non-governmental and non-profit organization that provides business development internships for young people. The organization focuses on empowering young people to make a progressive social impact. The AIESEC network includes around 40,000 members in 120+ countries. AIESEC members live an integrated development experience. It includes opportunities for leadership development through work or leading a team, or international volunteer exchanges or professional internships. All this with constant interaction with an international network that supports their development. AIESEC in Bosnia and Herzegovina has existed since 1995, which means that Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of the oldest AIESEC countries in the world.
Some of the AIESEC values are: striving for excellence, demonstrating integrity, activating leadership, acting sustainably, enjoying participation, diversity of life.
How was the AIESEC organization founded?
AIESEC was founded in 1948 after the Second World War, where seven young people from seven countries had a dream to build cross-cultural understanding between nations. By 1977, AIESEC was present in 50 countries on six continents. In 2010, AIESEC surpassed 10,000 experiences submitted in just one year for the first time. Then, in 2015, AIESEC young leaders from 126 countries and territories in cooperation with the Office of the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Youth gathered at the United Nations headquarters to promote and encourage youth participation in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals ( SDG). In short, AIESEC is a global network of people who simply believe that youth leadership is not an option, but our responsibility .
