During the 1793 festival days, 4705 performances, concerts, exhibitions, theater plays, films, and meetings of writers, architects, and scientific and cultural creators were held, with the participation of 45,700 participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the world. The Sarajevo Winter Festival (SWF) traditionally awards the “Freedom”, “Silver Snowflake” and “Silver Tree” awards for outstanding achievements in the arts and the affirmation of freedom of speech.
The festival is under the patronage of Bosnian and Herzegovina institutions, UNESCO and the Council of Europe , and is the winner of the 6th April Sarajevo Award and numerous other domestic and international awards. Over the years, it has become a symbol of connecting cultures and civilizations of the world. The festival has been a key partner in organizing cultural events, such as cooperation with the Avignon Festival, the city of the 10th Biennial of Young Artists of Europe and the Mediterranean, as well as projects such as “Link Diversity” and the promotion of Bosnia and Herzegovina within the Council of Europe.
On the occasion of SWF’s 40th birthday, we invite you to join us in celebrating on December 21, 2024. The celebration will take place in the places you love and work, reminding us of what it was like in 1984, as well as reflecting on what we can achieve for new generations by 2064. We want to raise the festival flag together at Susan Sontag Square.
We invite artists, volunteers and institutions to join the celebration and actively participate in the preparations for the XL Sarajevo Winter Festival and the Cultural Olympics, which will take place from February 7 to March 21, 2025. All interested parties can send their programs or messages to the e-mail sarajevowinterfest2024@gmail.com .
We also invite you to the “Fantastic Party SWF” which will be held at the Sarajevo City Market, and the opening ceremony will begin at 11:00 with the anthems of BiH and the EU. Guests will be welcomed with the flags of the Council of Europe, SWF, UNESCO and Sarajevo Market, and the program will include musical performances, martial arts, as well as the promotion of the Sarajevo Market, which was built in 1894.
On Human Rights Day, December 10, 2024 , we invite you to a press conference that will be held at the “Srebrena školjka” restaurant in Tržnica.
We cordially invite you to join the celebration and become part of this unique cultural story.
