Miner’s Day: Guardians of the dignity and tradition of this difficult and honorable profession

Miners’ Day in Bosnia and Herzegovina was initiated on December 21, 1920, when the miners of several Bosnia and Herzegovina mines went on a general strike due to the imposed difficult working conditions.

Miners from Tuzla, Zenica, Mostar, Breza and other Bosnia and Herzegovina. cities set two basic goals: a 30 percent wage increase and an increase in the family allowance.

These demands, of an economic nature, were a response to the high price jump of basic foodstuffs, which in a short period of time reached as much as 80 percent of the difference.

Like few other holidays, this one in Bosnia and Herzegovina is experienced by everyone as their own or at least they pay due respect to it.

It is the merit of the miners who preserve the dignity and tradition of this difficult and honorable profession.

Even today, unfortunately, the mining business is “seven-crust bread”, working conditions are not at an enviable level, but it is a business that indirectly gives Bosnia and Herzegovina energy stability and independence.
