Meet Layla Jusko, the first Rolify ambassador!

BIG NEWS for the Rolify community!  We have just launched a new initiative –  Rolify Ambassadors , through which we want to connect you with young leaders who deal with the most important topics of today and at the same time promote them as role models in society. Rolify ambassadors are  inspiring individuals who have already achieved significant success in their fields . They will share their  personal experiences, recommendations, tips and knowledge , as well as represent our community in the best light! Through their stories, we believe that we will encourage and empower you to get involved and contribute to a better future – your own, but also that of your environment. If you recognize yourself or someone close to you in this description – write to my inbox and maybe you or one of them will become our next ambassador!

Now we present you our first ambassador –  Layla Jusko !

Layla Jusko is a researcher and student of Political Science and International Relations from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. As  a Young European Ambassador for Bosnia and Herzegovina , she actively works in the fields of  climate action, public health and population development, and most importantly, youth participation .

She worked as a researcher at  the Climate Center of the International Federation of Red Cross/Crescent Societies , where she analyzed the climate strategies of national societies from Europe and Central Asia. Her work included analysis of climate indicators, presentations for informed decision-making on climate initiatives and providing support for the development of  a Climate Action Guide for National Societies for Europe and Central Asia . She also conducted research on health and climate change within  the ENBEL-HORIZON project .

In October 2023, she was chosen among  the ten best young researchers from the wider region of Europe  – by  the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)  and the prestigious  Karolinska Institute  – for her research on breast and cervical cancer in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Also, she had the opportunity to be  a representative of the youth and the academic community  at  the International Conference on Population Development (ICPD30)  in Geneva, where she spoke on behalf of the youth from the wider region of Europe.

As part of her work advocating public and reproductive health as well as human rights, she was  one of the creators of the interactive social game ‘Cycle’ , whose goal is to educate young people about the connection between menstrual poverty and human rights. Also, she worked as an intern for sexual and reproductive health (SRH) at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she supported SRH and youth program activities. She had the opportunity to conduct focused research on indicators of sexual and reproductive health in BiH, and to participate in  the Workshop for the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on the state of human rights in BiH .

In March 2024, she participated in  the Regional Forum for Sustainable Development  in Geneva, focusing on  SDG 13 (Climate Action)  as a representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina and young people from the ECE region (North America, Europe, Central Asia and West Asia), where she delivered a speech on behalf of the youth at the closing session of the Forum.

Furthermore, she is the coordinator, as well as the contact person for  the UNFCCC Local Youth Conference for Climate Action in Bosnia and Herzegovina (LCOY BiH) , whose goals are to raise awareness of climate change, improve environmental awareness, create a unique youth strategy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as promotion of local climate action initiatives led by young leaders. In 2023, she had the opportunity to represent young people in  the official delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the largest global multilateral climate change negotiations, COP28 .

Layla likes to read and spend time in nature, and she has a special love for cats and kennels.
