Medjugorje had an excellent season, breaking the record in 2019

It is the end of the main part of the season in Medjugorje, and the figures of this year’s tourist season confirm that this is a record season for one of the most famous Roman Catholic pilgrimage destinations in the world, even surpassing the results from the pre-pandemic year 2019.

– We are extremely satisfied with this tourist season in Medjugorje, this year it started earlier than usual because the Easter holiday was on March 30. Also, we are extremely satisfied with the visit for the 43rd anniversary of Our Lady’s apparitions and the 35th Mladifest – said Ante Kozina, director of the Tourist Board (TZ) of the Municipality of Čitluk, in an interview with Fena.

He emphasized that this year surpassed the record year of 2019.

– We are recording record numbers and finally, after 2019, we can say that this season was better and that 2019 no longer has to be taken as a reference point for the success and attendance of the parish of Međugorje. This is why we are extremely satisfied and proud – confirmed Kozina.

After the feast of All Saints, Medjugorje “enters” a quieter part of the year.

– We are entering the finale of the season, the season practically ends with us after the All Saints’ Day and then enters a quieter period until Christmas and New Year when we expect an increased number of pilgrims to Međugorje again – said the director of the TZ of the Municipality of Čitluk.

During the season, guests from western countries dominated, and on the weekend, the most numerous guests are from neighboring Croatia.

– This season we had an increased number of arrivals from Western countries, primarily from the USA, Italy, Ireland, France and Spain. Also, the number of arrivals of pilgrims from South America, Brazil and Argentina increased. As for the weekend, there are the most numerous domestic guests and pilgrims from neighboring Croatia – says Kozina.

As he says, hoteliers are also satisfied with the season.

– Hoteliers are extremely satisfied with their work this year, the number of visits has increased, hotel capacities have been very well filled throughout the year, and we have information that this year’s season will be extended to November and December as well – concluded Kozina.
