Konjic has become an indispensable tourist town

Konjic, a city that is often said to be where Bosnia and Herzegovina meets, is experiencing a boom in tourism. Those who are attracted by cultural content, rich history, but also those who like adrenaline come.

The heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina located among the hills where the clear river captivates every visitor at first glance. Those are the words from Konjičani to describe their city. There are many tourists who want to see for themselves the beauty of this part of the country. The central place is the old bridge.

The old   stone bridge  in Konjic, apart from being a symbol of this town, is also a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was built in the 17th century and represents the architecture of that time. It attracts tourists from all over the world, especially Turkey.

“The town may be small, but it has its own spirit and charm. However, this is an old bridge and it gives an additional beauty to the city and beauty. We must stop and drink coffee. People really like it, I noticed it in all groups regardless… when we say we will stay for an hour they are always short and say ‘what a beautiful place this is’,  said Cengiz Vata, a tour guide.

The “Equestrian Summer” is underway, as part of which citizens and tourists enjoy numerous concerts, cultural and sports events. Konjic is visited by people from other parts of the country throughout the year, and rafting and hiking are the key reasons.

“We are talking about an area that has four thousand stećaks, Tito’s bunker is also here, the contemporary biennial of contemporary art is also here, the birthplace of Zuka Džumhur is also here, this is a UNESCO city because our carvers are on the list for a specific equestrian pattern – they are on the list of what was recognized by the world. All these are attractions that, in addition to Prenje and rafting, really attract guests,”  said Benjamin Mušinović, director of the National University of Konjic.

After visiting Konjic, tourists often go to the nearby Jablanica Lake. Swimming, rafting and camping. There are guests from the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, and Slovenia. For the first time there are also tourists from Malta.

“People came to spend one night and were delighted with the Jablanica lake and felt our familiar hospitality for everyone. They decided to stay more nights and took a raft now to make a full day tour. I can’t wait for them to come back and give me their impressions,’ ‘ says Dervish Gabela from the “Smell of Summer” camp.

Impressions, as a rule, have always been positive so far. In Konjic, today is the peak of the Equestrian Summer event. Extreme cauldron jumps always attract curious visitors. The water depth in this part is only two meters.

“For the sake of comparison, the minimum depth for safe jumps is four meters. This ski jump is the most extreme and it is a special attraction. This is our jubilee tenth coming. Adrenaline is there and it’s a fantastic feeling ,” pointed out Aleksandar Aleksić, jumping club Užička lasta.

“The Neretva is one of the coldest rivers in Europe. A large number of Konji residents, foreigners, and our diaspora will come. It’s also nice to take a bath here. Few cities have this that our city has,”  said Elmir Miro Hadžialić, organizer of the “Jump into the Kazan” event.

With all these facilities, Konjic has become an unmissable tourist town. Often even those who planned to just walk through the streets of Konjic to another city end up staying here for days. And they always come back.
