Inspiration from Herzegovina: Microbusinesses as drivers of the local economy

As part of last week’s monitoring, we had the opportunity to visit Central Bosnia and Herzegovina-Neretva cantons, as well as a couple of municipalities from Republika Srpska. We visited the municipalities of Gornji Vakuf – Uskoplje and Bugojno, Mostar and Stolac in Herzegovina, and the municipalities of Ljubinje and Berkovići in the Republic of Srpska.

What particularly delighted us was the high quality of products and services offered by micro-businesses. From domestic products to a range of various services, each product bears the stamp  of authenticity and love for work.  Of course, like everywhere, these micro-businesses face numerous challenges, from lack of financial resources to bureaucratic obstacles. However,  no matter what, their enthusiasm and persistence is impressive.

We had the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of numerous micro-businesses and to see for themselves their importance, which is primarily related to  the stay of the local population in their cities and villages , but also their  importance for the local economy.  This region, known for its  rich history and natural beauty, also hides numerous entrepreneurial stories  that deserve to be told.

As a committee for micro-entrepreneurship, we had the opportunity to talk to numerous entrepreneurs and get to know their needs. Based on these conversations, we will strive to further tailor  our support programs  to help micro-businesses  reach their full potential.
