In the Hutovo Blato Nature Park, 38 plant species have the status of endangered

According to the available data and the implementation of field research in the area of the Hutovo Blato Nature Park, a total of 18 endemic plant species from a total of 9 families were recorded.

Based on the analysis of available literature data and conducted field research, a total of 38 plant species from 22 families that have the status of endangered have been recorded, this was established through the project “Monitoring the condition and mapping of the spawning areas of endemic fish species in Hutovo Blat” which is carried out by the Center for Investments and Development of Entrepreneurship (CIRP).

The vegetation cover of the wider area of Deranski Blato can be viewed through the vegetation communities that are represented in the hillside, flood plain, swamp and areas with a dominant water character.

“Regarding the mentioned indicators, it can be stated that the largest surface share is the surface of the combined nature of cover, first of all, the water surfaces that are covered by communities of water lilies, water lilies and reeds – about 34.3 percent, then the surfaces occupied by reeds, rushes, sedges , sedges with about 14.8 percent, while free water areas have a significant surface share – about 357 ha or about 30.6 percent. Reeds are of special importance because many species of fish use the shallow littoral parts of water bodies for spawning and plants as a substrate for spawning. After the incubation and hatching period, the fish larva usually remains in the shallow coastal part among the reed stems, where it develops into juveniles that continue to actively feed. in the same area. When they grow up, the individuals go to deeper parts of the water body, but return to the reeds to spawn ,” said Prof. Ph.D. Višnja Bukvić, member of the expert team.

The collected research results will be used in the establishment of a GIS database on defined zones important for the spawning of endemic fish species with associated attribute indicators on the types of vegetation cover. Research is still being carried out, and a project meeting of members of the expert team was held, whose research results will be incorporated into the project’s elaboration. The project is co-financed by the FBiH Environmental Protection Fund with 79 thousand marks, while the co-financing of CIRP is 21 thousand marks.
