Ibrišimbegović: Tourists from Sarajevo can take a little of the Olympic spirit with them

We were also visited by groups of scouts who are in Sarajevo, so the Olympic Museum was on their travel map

Tourists who come to Sarajevo have the opportunity to visit numerous sights, but if they include a visit to the Olympic Museum in their tourist route, they can also take away from this city the spirit of the Winter Olympic Games, which in 1984 made Sarajevo the center of the world.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of this sporting event. In February, in Sarajevo, in addition to numerous tourists, there were also participants of this great event, some athletes who won the most brilliant Olympic medals at that time.

And during the summer months, a large number of tourists

Interest in visiting the Olympic Museum in Sarajevo does not wane even in the summer.

The Director of the Municipal Museum of Sarajevo, which includes the Olympic Museum, Senka Ibrišimbegović told Fena that during the summer months they have a large number of tourists who are in Sarajevo for other cultural events, as well as because of Sarajevo’s attractive echo in Europe. “because Sarajevo is worth some kind of that exotic place where you need and want to go”.

– We have a large number of tourists throughout the day. Let’s note that there are also tourists who came for the Sarajevo Film Festival, so they are also interested in the Olympics. We know that our director Jasmila Žbanić also made a documentary film about Emeric Blum, who was one of the main lobbyists for the Sarajevo Olympics and was the mayor of Sarajevo at the time. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1984, but he remained a very important character for BiH and for Sarajevo, and for the Sarajevo Olympics – said Ibrišimbegović.

She pointed out that all tourists who come can take a little of that Olympic spirit with them from Sarajevo, and regardless of the fact that it’s summer, they can also feel winter, because in the Olympic Museum they can watch a video showing the competitions on the Olympic mountains.

Promotion of the new catalog

She announced that by the end of this year, they plan to create an exhibition and promotion of a new catalog about the exhibition in the Olympic Museum, which is currently in production, “which will be, in a way, a small proof and souvenir for everyone who wants to take something physically , in that context, about the museum”.

– We plan to do that in October, when it will be the fourth anniversary of the reopening of this renovated museum – said Ibrišimbegović.

Among other activities, she stated that they also organize workshops for children, and during the summer they also have summer schools.

– We were also visited by groups of scouts who are in Sarajevo, so the Olympic Museum was on their travel map. We are very satisfied with the visit and general interest in this museum – said Ibrišimbegović.

She reminded that last week, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton, and at the initiative of the Sarajevo Olympic Museum and the Creative Export Office, the Olympic and cultural heritage of BiH was presented in Paris, where the Paris 2024 Expo Showcase event was held during the Summer Olympics. .

Exhibition on a floating urban house on the Seine River

According to her, they managed to realize the exhibition in an attractive space, Fluctuart, which is actually a floating urban house on the Seine River. On one floor there was an exhibition that symbolically represents the Sarajevo Olympics, but actually also the connection between Paris and Sarajevo.

– As part of the exhibition, we not only promoted the Olympic achievements and all the beauties of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also the connection between Sarajevo and Paris through projects and top creative people living in Paris such as Milomir Kovačević Strašni, who is a top photographer working both in Paris and Sarajevo and represents BiH in the best possible way. Then our athletes Safet Sušić and Mehmed Baždarević who live in Paris, who are legends of sports and who spread the voice of BiH through this area. Then, the design of the award for the Sarajevo Film Festival, which starts in a few days, and which was made by the French designer Agnes B., which somehow connects ‘Paris mon amour and Sarajevo mon amour’. So, Paris, my love, but she actually transfers that love to Sarajevo and designs the Heart of Sarajevo, which is the official award of this great film festival – stated Ibrišimbegović.

She added that in Paris there was also the premiere of a documentary film about Markus Osterwalder, a Swiss graphic designer and historian of the Olympic Games, who was in Sarajevo in February of this year to promote the 40th anniversary of the Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo.

At the end of the conversation, Ibrišimbegović said that we can be proud that both the Winter Olympics and the Sarajevo Film Festival are big events that position Sarajevo on the map of successful, creative cities.
