Irma Hambašić from Maglaj breaks down prejudices and barriers between “men’s” and “women’s” jobs, writes Hayat.ba.
At the age of 19, she successfully engages in wood carving and is very successful at it.
This is supported by her numerous, satisfied customers for whom she custom-makes various wooden objects.
But let’s start from the beginning. Irma graduated from the School of Electrical Engineering, and her love for woodcarving began at an early age.
She tells Hayat.ba that her father is a carpenter, and that since she was a child, she always worked with him on small things and decorations from wood.
“I was always attracted to more demanding jobs, and over time I improved more and more in this skill. Although woodcarving is not a common occupation for girls, I was drawn to its beauty and challenge. I started doing it with the help of my father, and over time I fell in love with this craft and decided to turn my hobby into a business. Although sometimes it requires a lot of effort and attention, each new project brings special satisfaction”, says Irma.
She learned everything she knows about woodcarving from her father, and she also learned through her own experience.
Through the years of work, every mistake was a lesson that guided her and helped her to improve.
When it comes to the material he procures for making, he says that it can be expensive, but the handwork is appreciated, so everything comes together beautifully in the end.
“Although it requires a lot of work and effort, it is worth doing this craft because it brings great satisfaction. Currently, I sell most of my products online. I plan, God willing, to conclude contracts with some stores in Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to expand my business ,” she says.
Her humorous messages on various decorations, wooden spoons and meat boards won over her customers, as well as everyone who follows her Facebook page , so the product photos became viral.
“The idea for humorous messages comes from the desire for each product to be unique and unique, and to bring a smile to customers’ faces. I believe that such details add special value to any product. One of the most interesting projects was when I was contacted by a dear person who wanted a special gift for her aunt. I suggested a few options, including a meat board with a humorous sign. In the end, we managed to create a perfect birthday present that everyone was satisfied with ,” he says.
She points out that woodcarving also carries with it the risk of injury, but luckily nothing serious has happened to her so far.
In the future, he still plans to do this work.
“Recently, I opened my shop and registered the Traditional and old craft Wooden ornaments “UNIKAT”, which was my big dream. I hope to expand the business and cooperate with shops all over Bosnia. I also hope that the state will recognize the efforts of not only me, but also of all other young people who want to preserve and maintain our old Bosnian crafts”, said Irma, and on the way used the opportunity to send a message to all young people.
“The message for all young people is to follow their dreams and be persistent in what they want. Because only through work and effort can I fulfill my wishes and expectations” , she concluded in an interview with Hayat.ba.
