Project summaries:

Project title: Defrost your heart, warm up the classroom

Applicant: Informal group Development team of Husino Elementary School

The development team of the elementary school Husino, which was founded in 1958 and today has 113 students, in cooperation with the Local Development Group Husino, started the most urgent realization of the energy efficiency project and creation of adequate conditions for teaching in the school building. It is a long-standing and serious problem that disrupts the normal functioning of the educational process and already has far-reaching negative consequences. The building of the elementary school Husino is in a rather bad condition, and currently the biggest problem is heating during the winter period and the ventilation problem throughout the year. The windows are in a very bad condition, which is why students and teaching staff often get ill during the winter and miss classes. The facility is still heated by coal, where more than 80 tons of coal is spent during the season.

The applicant’s plan is to solve this problem in the next two years through this project by pooling funds and putting pressure on the authorities to replace windows and heating methods (from coal to pellets) and thus create adequate conditions for normal teaching. Given that this is a financially and operationally large undertaking, they consider it possible to implement and finish in two phases:

  • Replacement of windows in the new wing of the building with the largest number of usable classrooms and which is a priority
  • Replacement of windows in the old wing of the building and replacement of heating stoves and system

Approximately 31,000 BAM is necessary for the replacement of the mentioned windows in this phase. The support from the Foundation amounts to 15,000 BAM, while the rest of the funds will be provided through donations from local sources, the diaspora, the relevant ministry, local self-government and local businesses.

Project title: Heating of the social home in Par Selo

Applicant: Youth Association Par Selo Dubrave

The Youth Association Par Selo Dubrave has existed for 11 years. As time passed, the Association grew and positioned itself as a very successful Association in the area of the city of Tuzla and Tuzla Canton. The Association has a number of successful projects in the field of sports, culture, ecology, infrastructure, humanitarian work and other similar projects.

In recent years, the Association, together with other members of the local development group Par Selo, has implemented several projects aimed at renovating the premises of the social home Par Selo. The windows were replaced, electrification was done and the premises were equipped. Since the said home is continuously used by all members of the local development group, the heating of the home has been highlighted as one of the biggest current problems. All citizens of this community have the need to solve this one initiative, starting from the employees and users of the infirmary of the Public Institution Health Center Tuzla, the local community in Par Selo, to members of various associations. The project with which they applied refers to the activity of introducing heating in the entire facility of home. Huge amounts of coal are currently being used, and environmental pollution is evident when the furnace is lit which is an additional problem of this kind of heating. The goal in this project is to procure a pellet stove, distribute the heating in the entire building, install the radiators and make the heating operational.

The association plans to connect all stakeholders of this project (City of Tuzla, infirmary, associations, various institutions, diaspora, businesspersons, locals) and jointly provide the necessary financial resources for the project. They plan to procure firewood-pellets by joint efforts in agreement with the infirmary and the local community, i.e., the Public Institution Health Center Tuzla and the City of Tuzla. In the future, depending on the amount of funds raised, they plan to work on a facade on the building and replace the roof, which would complete/adapt the entire building.

This project is divided into several parts:

  • Furnace replacement and heating system implementation
  • Facade replacement
  • Roof replacement
  • Toilet renovation and door replacement

Approximately 19,000 BAM is necessary for the replacement of the furnace and the implementation of the heating system in this phase. The support of the Foundation amounts to 9,491.25 BAM, while the rest of the funds are planned to be provided by the City Administration of the City of Tuzla, individuals, diaspora, line ministries, but also through grants from the Republic of Croatia.
