Culture on the streets 2024!: On July 12, the premiere of the ballet ‘The Sound of the Olympic Spark’ will take place on Susan Sontag Square.

The second part of Planeta Sarajevo’s ballet triptych: “The Sound of the Olympic Spark”, as a tribute to the 40th anniversary of the Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo, will be premiered on Friday, July 12, starting at 9:00 p.m. at the Susan Sontag Theater Square. The choreography and direction is by Ivan Salonski, and the performance is performed by the Sarajevo National Theater Ballet ensemble, which will dance to the music of composer John Williams.

– “The Sound of the Olympic Spark ’24” (ZOI ’24), i.e. the second part of the triptych “Planeta Sarajevo”, to the music of John Williams, was conceived as a tribute to the 40th anniversary of the Winter Olympic Games held in Sarajevo. I want to emphasize that the city had its golden age, and through the memory of the past I want to encourage the audience to think about the future of Sarajevo as a center of high culture, social responsibility, sports and other key aspects of life. The goal of this play is to stimulate the audience’s collective memory of Sarajevo as an important cultural and sports capital. Through the idea of ​​ZOI ’24, I want to say that Sarajevo should not only be nostalgia for past times, but an inspiration for building a future in which the city will once again shine in its greatness and significance – said choreographer Ivan Salonski.

The roles will be played by: Albina Huskić, Elio Arnoldo Villa Garcia, Masafumi Okuzono, Luisa Escamilla Rodriguez, Dora Kos, Zulejha Kečo Kapidžić, Darika Dunganova, Selma Efendić, Masafumi Okuzono, Admir Kalkan and Toko Tatekawa.

The first part of Planeta Sarajevo’s triptych: “Like once in a while” choreographed and directed by Ekaterina Vereshchagina will open the evening dedicated to dance. In the ballet “K’o nekad u osm”, members of the ballet ensemble will dance to musical hits from the 70s. The soloists and ensemble of Ballet NPS take part in the performance: Nataša Gaponko, Darika Dunganova, Luisa Escamilla Rodriguez, Selma Efendić, Amina Sulejmanagić, Ivan Salonski, Bulat Gareev, Goran Staniškovski, Boris Vidaković and Denis Zhuchenko.

On the same night, ballet lovers will be able to enjoy a duet from the ballet “Mare Nostrum” performed by soloists of the Sarajevo National Theater Ballet, Tamara Ljubičić and Oleg Karatseva. The ballet “Mare Nostrum” was performed to the music of Jordi Savalo and choreographed by Davide Bombana.

Culture on the streets in 2024! is a special program of the Sarajevo National Theater that takes place in the premises of Sarajevo municipalities under the auspices of the Sarajevo Canton Government, and in partnership with the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board.

It has a multimedia character and expresses all forms of artistic expression present in the production of the Sarajevo National Theater. The goal of the project is to bring culture and art closer to citizens through the engagement of professional young artists and a top program and performance.
