Potential participants of the training for provision of paralegal support
Call for participation
Dear Madam/Sir,
The Center of Women’s Rights from Zenica in partnership with the Women’s Association “Romkinja” from Bijeljina has started the implementation of a 24-month project “Expanding Access to Justice Through Women’s Rights/Community Paralegals“, financed by the European Union.
The project aims to identify, empower and train 50 women’s human rights defenders and 20 representatives of micro-local communities who have been identified as persons who can respond in situations where vulnerable groups need help and support.
The project target groups are:
- women’s human rights defenders
- CSOs that protect human rights and rights of vulnerable groups
- service providers at all levels (primarily at the local level)
- representatives of micro-local communities, who often act as the first response in cases of gender-based violence or violence against women.
After implementation of activities, women’s human rights defenders will acquire skills and be trained to provide paralegal assistance. An active and visible network of activists and women’s human rights defenders will be established as a network of providers of paralegal support for easier access to rights and justice for vulnerable groups, who will be encouraged to take a more influential role in dialogue with decision-makers and service providers.
The multi-month training program includes four (4) modules in the period from June to December 2021:
Module I: “Sensitization for an approach without prejudices and stereotypes”, implies that participants develop a specific, gender-sensitive, user-oriented approach. Duration: three (3) days.
Module II: “Paralegals as community helpers”, gaining practical knowledge and developing skills on basic actions in providing support to victims of gender-based violence (GBV). Duration: three (3) days.
Module III: “Community paralegal support mechanisms”, implies the acquisition of basic knowledge about available legal protection, service institutions and referral mechanisms in the field of GBV. Duration: three (3) days.
Module IV: “Mentoring support” – implies monitoring of the application of acquired knowledge and skills through assistance and support in working on cases. Duration: constant support throughout the project.
All participants will receive material for each of the modules, and upon completion of the entire training they will receive a Handbook for community paralegals – persons of trust for easier access to justice and women’s rights.
All participants will be awarded with a certificate of completion.
The application process and mapping of potential participants will be open until April 15, 2021.
