The key steps for the development of congress tourism in Sarajevo were the improvement of existing capacities
Business tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently in the development phase, and in order for it to progress significantly, it needs institutional support and further development of the infrastructure important for business meetings.
Potentials and opportunities
This was concluded at today’s panel discussion “Development of business tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina – potentials and opportunities”, which was organized in Sarajevo by the Tourist Board of Sarajevo Canton and the business portal PoslovniTurizam.ba/BH-meetings.com.
– Our goal is to gather all service providers in the field of business tourism in one place through this portal, and then we will go to the foreign market so uniquely as an industry that regional and international event organizers would “book” us, that is, bring their people, teams, to they practice business tourism in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina – said Josipa Terzić-Rezić, the manager of this business portal, which has been in existence for a year.
Thanks to that portal, about 50 hotels, special spaces, agencies at the BiH level have been mapped so far, and the intention is to unite all the halls intended for business meetings.
One such facility is the Bosniak Institute, where a panel discussion was held today, in which hotel directors also participated. It is said that Sarajevo currently has the best facilities for holding congresses, seminars and fairs through several prestigious hotels such as Hills, Europa, Hollywood, Holiday, Bristol, Radon Plaza, Marriott, Central and Ibis Style, which are equipped with the most modern infrastructure necessary for the organization business events.

For business events, direct flights from more than 30 destinations around the world, which Sarajevo International Airport has, are also of prestigious importance.
– The opening of these flights and the geographical location itself give us the predispositions for business people to come to Sarajevo and develop the business part of tourism. Congress tourism is currently expanding in Sarajevo, where, despite this, there is a deficit of congress halls – stated the president of the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board, Haris Fazlagić.
The executive director of Europe Group, Belmina Bajrović, said that business tourism has great potential, given that Europa and Holiday hotels are recognized as congress hotels with high quality of service.
– Business clients make up 60 percent of our total number of clients. This year, we noticed a 10 percent increase in business clients compared to last year – said Bajrović.
The panel also ordered that the latest trends in tourism be constantly followed and innovative projects implemented so that Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina are recognized as unique destinations on the international tourist market.
The goal is to enable visitors to make the most of their stay in Sarajevo and to provide them with all the necessary information about available services, it was said.
