It is October 21 in Bratunac. held the first working meeting of the informal group “PsihoZAokret” with representatives of women’s associations active in this municipality. The participants were presented with the purpose and activities of the “Growing from Trauma” project, which seeks to establish a support mechanism for individuals and communities facing the consequences of traumatic war experiences. The participants of the meeting shared their experiences in previous work related to the topic of the project, and then the beneficiaries of the psychosocial empowerment program were mapped. Two groups of direct beneficiaries are planned – women and young people.
“The goal of the project is not only to raise awareness about the transgenerational transmission of trauma, but also to provide practical tools and techniques that users will be able to apply in their daily lives. It is especially important that the project includes young people and women, because they often play a key role in strengthening resilience within their communities,” said Gordana Dabić, project coordinator.
“As a woman who faced many challenges in life. This project provides us with a space for support, understanding and working together to overcome trauma. Already at this first meeting, I felt that I was not alone and that I would have the help I had been looking for for a long time”, said one of the participants of the working group.
As part of the project, workshops, group and individual activities will be held with the aim of empowering individuals, in order to contribute to the creation of a more resilient and just society.
The first meeting of the working group “Growing from Trauma” was attended by representatives of local authorities, media and non-governmental organizations. The aim of this meeting was to introduce the participants to each other, present the project and exchange key recommendations and guidelines for its further implementation. The “Growing from Trauma” project is implemented within the Youth for the Community program implemented by the “Friends of Srebrenica” Association, thanks to the support of the Peace Building Network through USAID Local Strength/Support to Local Resource Organizations (LRO/A).
