Bosnia and Herzegovina is on the verge of a technological revolution, and the establishment of the Space Agency could be a key step towards building a brighter future. The space industry is becoming more and more important, not only because of innovation but also because of the economic benefits it brings. Countries in the region are already making progress with their space initiatives. Albania has successfully launched two satellites, and Montenegro is preparing to launch its Luča satellite this year, while Croatia is working on the CroCube project. Why would Bosnia and Herzegovina lag behind when it has enormous potential and a favorable geographical position?
Due to its specific geographical location, Bosnia and Herzegovina has a significant strategic importance in space communications, as many satellites pass over our region. Space agencies and companies around the world use ground stations to maintain communication with satellites, and Bosnia and Herzegovina could become a key location for providing these services. The establishment of the Space Agency would enable the construction of such an infrastructure, positioning our country as an indispensable player in the space industry, Anes Hadžiomerović, president of the CERIT Center for Education, Robotics, Innovation and Technology, states in the author’s text.
Why do we need a Space Agency?
Technological development and innovation
– The space industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in the world. By founding the Space Agency, Bosnia and Herzegovina would join the global community of countries investing in research and innovation. Our country would have the opportunity to develop its satellites, participate in international projects and follow the latest technological advances.
Attracting investors and creating new jobs
– The space industry would not only attract foreign investments, but also create numerous new jobs in various sectors: from engineering and programming to logistics and management. Investors around the world are willing to invest in countries that prioritize technological advancement, and the establishment of the Space Agency would serve as a magnet for them.
Development of the educational system and new experts
– The space agency would inspire the development of educational programs focused on space science, engineering and robotics. Our universities could educate new generations of experts ready to face the challenges of the space age.
Development of various industrial sectors
– The space industry is not limited to rockets and satellites. Sectors such as telecommunications, energy, agriculture, meteorology and transport would benefit significantly from space technologies. Satellite technologies can help in accurate weather monitoring, more efficient management of resources in agriculture and the improvement of telecommunications.
Increasing national pride and global standing
– The entry of Bosnia and Herzegovina into the space race would be a source of pride for all citizens. The establishment of the Space Agency would show that we are ready to be regional leaders and face the challenges of the future. In addition, our country should actively participate in international organizations such as the United Nations – UN and the International Telecommunication Union – ITU, voting on key issues related to space and ensuring that our voice is heard on the global stage.
Call to action
The establishment of the Space Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina is not only a question of prestige – it is a question of the economic and technological future of our country. It is an opportunity to use our human potential and become a regional leader in space research and technology, Hadžiomerović points out.
– It’s time to give our hands to the stars! The space agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina would be a key step towards the modernization of our society and economy. Our young engineers, developers, scientists and experts from various fields are ready for this challenge. We need support and political will to build a future in which Bosnia and Herzegovina does not fall behind, but moves forward together with the best. By founding the Space Agency, we are not only opening the door to space – we are opening the door to a better life for all of us!
