The screening program for cervical cancer is intended for women aged 30 to 64, for breast cancer for people aged 45 to 69, and for colon cancer from 50 to 74.
The Ministry of Health of Sarajevo Canton will also provide free preventive examinations for people residing in this canton this year, confirmed to Fokus.
The response of citizens in the previous actions “Life is at stake” was excellent. Thanks to this, some of them were diagnosed with a malignant disease at an early stage, which is extremely important for the success of the treatment. In addition to the screening program for cervical, breast and colon cancers, new services will be introduced this year.
– Bearing in mind the importance of prevention, we expanded the campaign to lung and prostate screening programs. We expect that citizens’ applications for the desired examinations will start already in September. Public call for private and public health institutions in KS for preventive programs is underway. After it is closed at the end of August, the selection of institutions that have applied according to the mentioned criteria will be started – Elma Kapidžić, Head of the Department for Health Records in the Ministry of Health of the KS, told Fokus.
Everything must be finished by December 20th
Persons between the ages of 50 and 59 will be able to apply for prostate examinations through PSA testing, and for CT lung scans from 50 to 74 years old. The screening program for cervical cancer is intended for women aged 30 to 64, for breast cancer for people aged 45 to 69, and for colon cancer from 50 to 74.
The Ministry provided one million marks for a total of five screening programs. Interested healthcare institutions can apply for a public invitation until August 29. The contract will be awarded to those who meet all the required conditions and offer the lowest price per inspection. The selected institutions will be obliged to complete the entire work by December 20 of this year.
Last year, more than 6,100 views were secured. All were successfully completed and all applications were completed in record time. 1,917 preventive examinations for cervical cancer were performed, which include the service of PAPA test and HPV genotyping, 1,600 preventive examinations for colon cancer, which include the service of immunochemical test for occult bleeding, 1,300 mammograms and 1,300 skin examinations for the prevention of melanoma.
