Almost 220,000 workers in the FBiH receive a salary of less than 1,000 KM

The decision of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to increase the minimum wage to 1,000 KM has raised a number of questions about the effects of that decision.

Starting with the January salary, all workers in the FBiH entity who had a monthly income of under 1,000 KM must receive a salary increase, regardless of whether they work in the public or private sector.

On this occasion, we contacted the FBiH Tax Administration with the question of how many workers in the FBiH receive the minimum wage, and how many receive a salary of up to 1,000 KM.

“According to official records, and based on data on paid contributions for pension and disability insurance, health insurance contributions, and unemployment contributions for 10 months from 2024, the number of workers receiving a salary of up to 1,000 KM is 219,500,” the Tax Administration told us.

Of these, the number of workers receiving the minimum wage is 124,725.

Also, according to the official records of the Tax Administration of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the number of registered micro taxpayers is 28,771, small taxpayers is 5,941 and medium taxpayers is 1,186.

The number of taxpayers who are self-employed as their primary activity and pay contributions is 29,810 persons (owners).
