Activists’ victory – Monitoring of Mount Konjuh is established

Activists of the “Cardboard Revolution” movement welcomed the activities and decisions to establish the protection of Mount Konjuh and stop the theft of the forest.

In a press release, they remind that the Government of Tuzla Canton (TK) yesterday adopted information from the Ministry of Spatial Planning and Environment Protection of TK on the establishment of protective measures in the area of the Protected Landscape “Konjuh”.

In that information, it is stated that the works on the construction of the monitoring house as well as the installation of video surveillance on the Kladnje side are in the final phase, and that the finalization of the works is expected within a few days. Video surveillance will serve as a protection measure against the abuse of forest cutting, which was detected by non-governmental organizations. Since this is a section of the regional road that is under the jurisdiction of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Government of TK sent a request to the Federal Government to find opportunities and establish a ramp. After the completion of the works (establishment of info points and video surveillance), the Ministry will also send a letter to JP “Forests” TK, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry TK, in which they will request the stopping of vehicles that are currently carrying out regular felling in ZP “Konjuh” in order to control of forest cutting in ZP “Konjuh.

“These activities are a direct result of the two-year struggle of the activists of the “Cardboard Revolution” movement to establish the protection of Mount Konjuh and stop the theft of the forest and ecocide that is happening on the side of the municipality of Kladanj,”  say the activists.

They announced that tomorrow there will be a final meeting of the expert team for the revision of the Elaborate on the declaration of part of the Konjuh mountain as a protected landscape, which has the task of determining the need to expand the protection zone of the Konjuh mountain, especially taking into account water courses such as the Oskova river basin and Paučko jezero. After finalizing the activities of the expert team, the final assumptions will be made for changes to the law and stopping logging in the most vulnerable parts of the Konjuh mountain.

“Implementation of all the mentioned measures will create the preconditions for saving the Konjuh mountain on the one hand, but also stop one of the biggest corrupt and criminal actions when it comes to forest cutting,”  said the “Cardboard Revolution” movement.
