130 years in a drop of water: Sarajevo Kiseljak marks 130 years of existence with an exhibition at the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Sarajevo, September 23, 2021 – An exhibition titled “130 years in a drop of water” was opened at the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo, with which the company Sarajevski kiseljak symbolically marks 130 years of existence and the beginning of commercial bottling of this carbonated natural mineral water.

Considering that the support for the preservation and development of culture is part of the fundamental values we cultivate, as part of the activities on the occasion of this important event, we decided to support one of the most important cultural institutions, the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Apart from the years, Sarajevo Kiseljak and the National Museum are connected by the fact that they contain the best from this country: a natural and historical treasure, which speaks of centuries-old successes, achievements and traditions. With the exhibition “130 years in a drop of water” we want to contribute to the work of the National Museum and the affirmation of culture in Bosnia and Herzegovina and show respect for the local community in which Sarajevo Kiseljak was created. We hope that the visitors of the Museum will enjoy the exhibition in which we celebrate the past, while at the same time we look to the future with optimism”, said Admir Suljević, director of Sarajevski Kiseljak.

The exhibition consists of more than a hundred items from the museum collection originating from Kiseljak and its surroundings, which are part of the tradition and climate in which this company originated and developed over time: jewelry, clothing, footwear, furniture, tools and more which is worth keeping and seeing.

“The items from the collections of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina that are presented at this exhibition reflect a part of the rich culture and past of the Kiseljak area, and the collection of Višnjica ceramics stands out in particular. It is believed that the production of this pottery developed due to the proximity of the source of mineral water, which, according to legend, could best be transported and preserved in these vessels. The distinct decorativeness of these objects, unusual for rural ceramics, is reflected in the multitude of ornaments, but also in the refined form that sets it apart from the multitude of rural ceramics from Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Lebiba Džeko, museum advisor at the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The exhibition will be open until October 22. In the middle of the mentioned event, in the middle of 2021, Sarajevski kiseljak placed a special retro edition of bottles on the market, with labels from the past decades, which represent a kind of historical and cultural heritage. Also, a photomonography “130 years of Sarajevo Kiseljak” was recently published, in which the author, journalist, publicist and chronicler Raif Čehajić, in 160 pages, presented in detail the origin, development and operation of the company with all challenges and achievements and its impact on identity and local community development.
