With the New Year’s gifts prepared by our school, we surprised more than 59 students living in the returnee town Prača, Pale Municipality.
Sarajevo, December 28, 2021 SSST Gymnasium continued the tradition of giving and social responsibility this year as well. At the suggestion of history teacher Arijana Ibričić and pedagogue Enisa Ćehajić, SSST Gymnasium organized a charity event to collect and prepare New Year’s packages for 59 students of the elementary school “Prača” in Prača, Pale municipality.
Students, teaching and administrative staff of the SSST Gymnasium gladly responded to this humanitarian action, and throughout December they prepared gifts for their friends living in Prača, and did not forget the handwritten New Year’s greetings and best wishes.
The delegation from the SSST Gymnasium presented the gifts yesterday, and they were welcomed with a special event, a song and a play with Santa Claus prepared for them by students from the first to the fifth grade. On this occasion, the director of Elementary school “Prača” Ajla Subašić handed over a thank you letter to the representatives of the SSST Gymnasium for the organized charity action.
- On behalf of all the students and their parents, I truly thank you. Our children do not ask for much, and such surprises are proof that they have not been forgotten – said the director of Elementary school Ajla Subašić added that the New Year’s gifts for students brought great joy to the school, but also to their homes, because the parents are mostly unemployed, and the families support themselves by engaging in agriculture.
This Municipality, which today belongs to the Bosnian-Podrinje Canton and has about 15 settlements, was completely destroyed by the war in 1992, and three years later, in March 1995, the Elementary school “Prača” was set on fire. The school was renovated a year later, and today it is attended by 59 students in combined classes. Most of them use transportation services because they come from places more than three kilometers away. There is a lack of a systemic solution for the full functionality of the school, and the quality education of children is reduced to the individual efforts of the school principal and staff to provide children with the best possible conditions for work and development.
As an educational institution, with this New Year’s action, the SSST Gymnasium continued the tradition of social responsibility, but also raising awareness to provide assistance to those who need it the most.
- We want to serve as an example to all other schools that are able to do the same and surprise and help those in need. At the same time, we teach our students responsibility, empathy and altruism, because only in this way we can mature as a society and become better people. I would like to thank everyone who supported our donation campaign, especially the students and parents of our school – said Senad Alić, director of the SSST Gymnasium.
