At the meeting with the Minister of Health in the Government of Tuzla Canton, Božo Jurić and his associates, we talked about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the elderly from Tuzla Canton, as well as creating cross-sectoral cooperation between public and civil sector in creating better living conditions for the elderly in the area of Tuzla Canton, which also affects the extension of their lifespan.
The UN resolution on the proclamation of the “Decade of Healthy Aging 2021-2030” is an opportunity and occasion for joint action in the direction of creating better living conditions for the elderly, but also better health care. Cross-sectoral cooperation is a precondition for the issue of elderly people from the area of Tuzla Canton to be actualized, and for priority issues to be addressed systematically.
The Minister of Health of Tuzla Canton pointed out that it is necessary to work on the promotion of the activities of the Active Aging Network of Tuzla Canton, as well as activities within the “Decade of Healthy Aging 2021-2030” and agreed with representatives of the Tuzla Community Foundation, Tuzla Canton Active Aging Network and Tuzla Canton Public Health Institute on the establishment of Centers for Healthy and Active Aging in the Tuzla Canton.
This will be preceded by a meeting with the Prime Minister of Tuzla Canton, as well as the ministers of relevant ministries in the Government of Tuzla Canton, which topic will be the issue of the elderly.
The meeting was realized as a project activity of the Tuzla Community Foundation within the project “Fighting the COVID-19 pandemic through philanthropy and solidarity”, which aims to strengthen civil society organizations working with the most vulnerable categories during the COVID-19 pandemic – young people, elderly and women. The project is supported by the Balkan Trust for Democracy, the German Marshall Fund project and USAID, as well as the Ministry of Economy of Tuzla Canton.
