For the tenth year in a row, Humanity in Action Bosnia and Herzegovina is organizing the project “Promoting Democratic Values and Active Citizenship among Young People“, with the support of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). The program is focused on the transfer of knowledge about democratic principles and human rights, stimulating critical thinking on sensitive issues in society, and encouraging the development of communication and research skills of participants.
The invitation primarily refers to first and second year undergraduate students at all higher education institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but applications from senior students will also be considered.
The program consists of the following components:
- The nine-day educational program in Sarajevo (December 2021) primarily aims to transfer knowledge about different models of democracy, democratic values, basic postulates of active citizenship and democratic political culture, human rights, nationalism and identity, and youth activism.
- Individual research (December 2021 – February 2022) will enable participants to explore with the assigned mentor an issue of their interest that broadly relates to existing barriers that prevent effective participation of young people in their communities, i.e., the application of discrimination or human rights violations of young people.
- The three-day training in Neum (March 2022) is an opportunity to present research and developed skills in project and financial management.
- Implementation of group projects (April – June 2022) with the application of knowledge and skills acquired in previous phases of the program.
- Promotion of the group projects’ results (July – August 2022) in the media and local communities in which they are implemented.
- Closing ceremony in Sarajevo (September 2022) with the awarding of certificates and presentation of implemented projects.
