High school students from Banja Luka are donating blood again

The traditional spring blood donation action, organized by the City Organization of Red Cross Banja Luka and the Institute for Transfusion Medicine of the Republika Srpska, this year included all high schools in Banja Luka.

High school seniors participated in the action in great numbers and donated blood to help all those who need it and to show their humanitarianism again.

Željkica Ilić, secretary of the City Organization of Red Cross, told to “Nezavisne” that this is a traditional action that takes place twice a year, in spring and autumn.

“The action lasts until the beginning of April, and all high school students participate in it. We had a significant number of donors of blood, but due to the situation with the coronavirus pandemic, the number of donors was reduced,” said Ilić.

According to her, so far, they are satisfied with the response of high school students, who once again showed their humanitarianism and donated blood.

“The Institute for Transfusion Medicine of the RS has made a schedule and students of two high schools in the area of the city donate blood on a weekly basis,” Ilić explained.

The Institute for Transfusion Medicine of the RS stated that the traditional action of voluntary blood donation of students in the final grades of high schools began on February 18.

“Eleven high schools from the city are participating in the actions. Blood is donated by students of the Electrical Engineering School, Medical School, Technology School, Polytechnic School, Agricultural School, Catering, Trade and Tourism School, School of Economics, Technical School, Catholic Grammar School, Construction School and Grammar School,” the RS Institute of Transfusion Medicine said.

They added that the state of blood supply is good, but that due to consumption, blood must be collected continuously.

So far, in this traditional action of the City Organization of Red Cross Banja Luka and the Institute for Transfusion Medicine of RS, more than 170 students have donated this precious liquid.

In February, the Red Cross volunteers distributed disinfection stands, non-contact thermometers and products for disinfection to 29 primary schools in the city.
