Educating farmers brings record quantities of milk

Today, a lecture on the topic “Management in dairy with a focus on nutrition and reproduction” was held in Sokolac, which was attended by a large number of farmers from the area of this municipality.

The lecture for farmers was organized by the Veterinary Station Sokolac in cooperation with the Department for the provision of professional services in agriculture, the Sokolac Regional Unit, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republika Srpska.

Doctor of veterinary medicine Mirko Stanišić from the Veterinary Station Sokolac expressed his belief that reproduction itself, without a balanced diet and a comprehensive management in dairy, does not have too many successes.

Stanišić emphasized that one of the consequences of the pandemic is the surplus of milk.

People have matured as farmers and through education they have realized how important it is to follow the trends of European and world practice, but also to rely on their own experiences,” Stanišić told reporters.

He advised milk producers to stay united and try to endure the pandemic until the very end, adding that milk and dairy products will always be consumed, especially from the Romanija area, where milk has a large fat unit, which is the basis of the taste of milk.

According to him, there is a possibility of activating one dairy in this region, which should cover all market surpluses of milk, which indicates a brighter future for dairy farming in this area.

Dragan Bejatović from the Department for the Provision of Professional Services in Agriculture, Sokolac Regional Unit, said that cattle breeding is the most represented in the Sarajevo-Romanija region and that the primary production is based on milk production.

Last year, the dairies “Pađeni” and “Milkos” bought 3,510,000 liters of milk from Sokolac, and 1,210,000 liters in the first five months of this year,” said Bejatović.

Bejatović emphasized that, in the following period, practical trainings will be organized on the farms themselves, related to the control of mastitis in cows and milk hygiene, with the aim of raising its quality.

The president of the Association of Milk and Meat Producers “Romanija”, Dragomir Obradović, said that such lectures are good for all milk producers, because more and more people are getting involved in this business and some of them have just started the production process.

Obradović reminded that the organized purchase of milk in this area started fifteen years ago with small quantities of milk, and now from year to year dairies buy record quantities.

This is currently the only branch in the municipality of Sokolac, and beyond, which brings fresh money to our local community because we have producers who deliver up to 600 liters of milk a day,” said Obradović.

He stated that because of that, the livestock has significantly increased, that some dairies have up to 50 dairy cattle on the farm, which he considers to be progress in agriculture.

Obradović expressed his belief that the largest number of families in the area of Sokolac live from the production and sale of milk.

He hopes that after a long pandemic break, the local Association of Meat and Milk Producers will revive its work and focus on increasing the number of members and creating conditions for even better results for Romanija dairies.

Let’s unite to solve all the problems together and get what belongs to us in the community. We can agree on everything, and as individuals we can do nothing“, said Obradović, addressing the dairies.
