The Minister of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Physical Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of Sarajevo Canton, Enver Hadžiahmetović, announced the introduction of new, concrete steps to improve the cleanliness of the city and restore order in communal cleanliness in Sarajevo.
After numerous remarks and dissatisfaction of citizens due to the dirty city, irregular waste collection, the Minister once again asked the competent companies KJKP “Rad” and KJKP “Park” to answer frequent questions regarding this area. As stated by Hadžiahmetović, the current situation and dissatisfaction of citizens is unacceptable, and urgent measures will be taken. The cleanliness of the city will be a priority in his work in the coming period.
At the meeting that the Minister held today with the management of the company “Rad”, it was agreed to urgently form an Operational Team that will manage the action of introducing order in the area of communal cleanliness on the streets of Sarajevo. The team will be personally managed by Minister Hadžiahmetović.
“The team will perform systematic supervision and monitoring of work in the field of cleanliness. It will consist of representatives of KJKP ‘Rad’, ‘Park’ and ‘Vodovod i kanalizacija’, the Directorate for Inspection Affairs, and the competent Ministry. We will additionally hire 100 seasonal workers for ‘Rad’ and ‘Park’ who will work intensively on cleaning the city. I will demand increased engagement of communal wardens and inspectors in the field, because Sarajevo must have a look worthy of the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and citizens must have a service that the competent communal company is obliged to provide,” said Minister Hadžiahmetović.
He added that KJKP “Rad” is working at full capacity on waste collection and maintaining the cleanliness of the city, but the problem is still the lack of mechanization and manpower. Therefore, new, seasonal workers will be hired and efforts will be made to speed up the procurement process of new machines. Numerous unresolved issues and problems have accumulated over the years, and now the goal is for the utility companies Park and Rad, under the monitoring of the competent ministry, to launch joint activities in order to finally systematically resolve the issue of city cleanliness.
“We have to solve the accumulated problems from the previous period and I promise the citizens that we will do it. I will initiate all the necessary activities to form communal police that will bring order and force everyone to behave responsibly. We expect citizens to work with us as partners, to report any illegal waste disposal and to help clear up this situation. I invite citizens to report every case of improperly disposed waste to the utility company Rad, and I promise them that every report will be reviewed and answered“, the Minister was determined.
Citizens can report improperly disposed waste via Viber number 062 00 22 44.
