Hutovo Blato and Neretva River – new thematic tourist routes

Withing the project “Exchange – Research of transboundary aquatic biodiversity”, the Tourist Board of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (TZ HNŽ) is organizing a seminar “Biodiversity of the Neretva River” which will be held on Wednesday, June 30, at Hotel Mostar in Mostar.

The aim of the seminar is to introduce tourist guides and representatives of institutions with the natural heritage of Mostar, the Neretva River, and the biodiversity of the Neretva River, for the future presentation of natural heritage to tourists – visitors to Mostar.

The main goal of the Exchange project is to strengthen and diversify the tourist offer through research into transboundary aquatic biodiversity and enable better management and sustainable use of cultural and natural heritage.

The project is developing a new cross-border tourist product – Blue Map, which allows visits to new thematic routes: Dubrovnik and Aquarium (Croatia), Kotor and Aquarium Boka (Montenegro), Water Trail Hutovo Blato, as well as the Old Bridge in Mostar and the Neretva River (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and attracts more tourists to the area.

The project is implemented by five partners: University of Dubrovnik, Institute for Marine and Coastal Research Croatia (lead partner); Kotor Tourist Organization, Montenegro; University of Montenegro, Institute of Marine Biology, Montenegro; The Tourist Board of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton and the Public Company “Nature Park Hutovo blato” d.o.o. Čapljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The project implementation period is August 15, 2020 – August 14, 2022, and the total value of the project is 1,686,047.15 euros, of which 1,433,140.05 euros is co-financed by the European Union. The budget of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Tourist Community in the project amounts to EUR 253,066.35.

The Exchange project was approved under the Interreg IPA Cross-border Cooperation Program Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2014-2020 and uses the resources of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance II (IPA II).
