Citizens are asking for a review of the permit for the construction of a kerosene warehouse in Dobrinja

Yesterday, an informal group of citizens “Salvation at the last minute – let’s save Dobrinja”, at two points in Sarajevo, in front of BBI and the Faculty of Economics, organized the signing of a petition asking the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of Sarajevo Canton to review the environmental permit issued for the construction of a kerosene warehouse and a gas station with accompanying facilities, which are being built in the Sarajevo neighborhood of Dobrinja.

Amar Taso, a representative of the informal group of citizens “Salvation at the last minute – let’s save Dobrinja”, said in his address to the media that this was “another civic activism that is trying to force the authorities to do their job”.

We demand to renew procedures for illegal permits, that we reach a solution, that what is being done in the Third Water Protection Zone be stopped. We believe it is high time they took responsibility. We will certainly not give up our fight, we will persevere in this. We will protect our health and the water of the city of Sarajevo. We call on the citizens to join this action in as many numbers as possible, so that we all persevere together in this fight. This is not just a problem of Dobrinja, this is a problem of the whole city. We all drink water, which is pumped from that zone, and it is time to prove to the authorities that they can’t do everything they want, and that they should ask us what we want” said Taso.

He stated that they have collected more than 500 signatures so far, and the goal is to have 1,000, and to submit the petition to the competent authorities.

Taso reminded that the citizens of Dobrinja have been fighting for months with the illegal construction of the Hifa oil doo complex in Dobrinja, next to the International Airport.

Although this group of citizens proved through irregularities in issuing consents and permits and appealed to the authorities that this is the Third Water Protection Zone, in which this type of branch is strictly prohibited, the construction of the complex continues today. The lives of citizens are endangered from the safety aspect, health due to the evaporation of oil derivatives, and the supply of drinking water in the entire city of Sarajevo“, added Taso.

The informal group of citizens “Salvation at the last minute – let’s save Dobrinja” believes that the interests of private investors must not be more important than the health and safety of citizens.
