Centar Municipality will support the work of the Sarajevo Film Center

Mayor of Centar Municipality Srđan Mandić and his associates visited the Sarajevo Film Center where he met with the director Ines Tanović and the employees of the Center, as well as volunteers who are engaged in the project of restoration and digitalization of the BiH cinematography.

Tanovic presented the work of the Center, which last year and early this year, with the support of the Fund of American Ambassadors in order to preserve the film cultural heritage of our country, procured extremely valuable equipment, which will, in the coming period, enable the digitization of BiH cinematography in Sarajevo.

“This will contribute to the preservation of the extremely rich fund of BiH cinematography that will be available in quality form to current and future generations of film workers and citizens of our country. In the past year, thanks to the Fund of American Ambassadors to BiH and the great efforts of the Center’s employees, the space of the Film Studio ‘Jagomir’, which received a new storage depot for BiH, has been completely renovated, which created space for digitalization of an extremely important BiH cinematography. Recently, we received equipment for restoration and digitalization, and with the help of trained technicians and colorists, it was prepared and ready for us to start our work. It is extremely important that professional and educated volunteers also participate in the realization of this project”, explained Tanovic.

She then added that the renovation of other facilities is planned in the next period in order to make a studio for post-production of sound and images.

Mayor Mandic said that the Center Municipality will support the work of the Sarajevo Film Center in accordance with the financial possibilities.

“The Center Municipality allocates significant funds from the budget to support cultural institutions. The renovation of the Sarajevo Film Center should be supported by all levels of government, appreciating the importance of preserving the film cultural heritage of our country”, said Mandic.

“The main goal is to build a real film studio in which both TV series and other projects will be filmed,” Tanovic concluded.

Sarajevo Film Center is working to preserve the tradition and heritage of BiH cinematography and the development of the film industry and audiovisual sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina as the legal successor of the former large film companies Bosna film, Studio film and Sutjeska film.

The film studio “Jagomir” was founded in 1950, and was built by labor actions organized by the union. During the 1992-1995 war, the studio was destroyed, and 70 feature films, around 700 original documentaries, as well as thousands of other special-purpose materials have been preserved.
