Opis
This international, online, tuition-free program trains journalists from small newsrooms in digital transformation through product thinking. It is offered by the J+ division of the Newmark J-School, News Catalyst, and the Google News Initiative.
Starting in January 2021, the program will consist of weekly online training sessions led by product leaders from around the world. They will cover every phase of product development and management in a news setting.
The program is designed for journalists in small to midsize local news organizations, and we welcome applications by journalists from all backgrounds with an interest in taking a product approach to better serve their audiences and find new paths to sustainability.
The program grew out of a successful two-month pilot training earlier this year that helped 25 U.S. and international participants launch news products around COVID-19, improve team communication while working remotely, and embrace an audience-first ethos. Students reported that the training ignited a digital transformation in their newsrooms that helped them weather the coronavirus pandemic. The transformational impact of a deep, immersion-style program prompted the J-School in collaboration with News Catalyst and the Google News Initiative to develop the training initiative.
The program will serve 75 journalists, with 25 in each group focusing on a different region of the world including the Americas, Europe/Middle East/Africa, and Asia Pacific. Instruction will be in English, follow our tested curriculum, and include asynchronous and live lectures, discussions, and small-group coaching.
The Americas cohort is ongoing. The application period for Europe/Middle East/Africa cohort is Jan 20 – Feb 17, 2021. You may also sign up for our mailing list to receive updates.
